Painting

Lauren’s primary medium for painting is watercolours and ink-pen. She is primarily a self-taught artist.

“I love that looking at art can bring someone happiness. I take pleasure in using colour, shape, and line to express the moment of an object without a focus on hyper-realism. More of a sketch or impression of the thing. Humans are not robots; our eyes do not perceive nature with everything simultaneously in precise clarity. I also enjoy negative space, or the things unsaid. I don’t really know what to call what I do. Some say illustration, some say sketch, impression, expression? All of the above? It’s what comes out of my brain.”

Children’s Book

In honour of her step-daughter and husband’s journey into parenthood, Lauren wrote them a children’s book. “A Zookeeper’s Alphabet” features unusual and unexpected animals; C isn’t just for cat! This alphabet learning book also highlights the primary and secondary colours.

100 Acre Brewing Co.

In 2023 Lauren became the “resident artist” for an amazing new family-operated farmhouse brewery in Peterborough, Ontario, 100 Acre Brewing Co. She has the pleasure of creating the artwork featured on their beer cans. Someday, she vows, Lauren will taste the beer too!
